Timber volume estimation based on airborne laser scanning — comparing the use of national forest inventory and forest management inventory data

چکیده
Large-scale forest resource maps based on national inventory (NFI) data and airborne laser scanning may facilitate synergies between NFIs management inventories (FMIs). A comparison of models used in such a NFI-based map FMI indicate that can directly be FMIs to estimate timber volume mature spruce forests. Traditionally, have been separate activities. The increasing availability detailed provides the possibility eliminate or reduce need field sample plot measurements if their accuracy is similar. We aim 1) compare model FMI, 2) evaluate utilizing additional local plots map. Accuracies estimates using from an existing were compared at stand level. Estimates similar more accurate than FMI. addition modeling did not clearly improve map.The indicates for estimation stands, leading potentially large cost savings.

Simulating Sampling Efficiency in Airborne Laser Scanning Based Forest Inventory
A simple simulator was developed to test whether airborne laser scanning can be used as a strip sampling tool for forest inventory purposes. The simulator is based on the existing two stages, grid based laser inventory procedure. A population of trees was created using an existing forest stand structure generator. Each tree was represented by means of its 3D-crown model derived from airborne la...
متن کاملAirborne laser scanning based forest inventory for forest management by applying novel metrics and multiple data sources
The aim of this work was to develop airborne laser scanning (ALS) based forest inventory for practical forest management by applying novel horizontal metrics and multiple data sources. In particular, this work examined classification of forest land attributes (study I), prediction of species-specific stand attributes (study II) and detection of spatial pattern of trees (study III) and need for ...
متن کاملAdvances in Forest Inventory Using Airborne Laser Scanning
We present two improvements for laser-based forest inventory. The first improvement is based on using last pulse data for tree detection. When trees overlap, the surface model between the trees corresponding to the first pulse stays high, whereas the corresponding model from the last pulse results in a drop in elevation, due to its better penetration between the trees. This drop in elevation ca...
متن کاملForest Inventory and Biomass Assessment by the Use of Airborne Laser Scanning Method (example from Siberia)
The use of aerial laser scanning method provides a number of principally new possibilities on remote sensing of forest vegetation and specifically of a disturbed forest ecosystems (after wild fires, logging operations, insect outbreaks etc.) which area increases year by year in Siberia. The high efficiency of laser sensing survey (up to 50-70 thousand original measurements per second) combining...

The use of the newest methods of airborne laser scanning integrated with hyper-spectral satellite systems, provides principally new opportunities for remote sensing of forest cover. High efficiency of laser scanning (up to 100 thousand measurements per second) in combination with sub-meter spatial resolution, high accuracy of a tree stands’ structural parameters detection as well as three-dimen...
